Swimming lessons

Evie had her very first swimming lesson last saturday at the Goodman Pool here in Madison. The pool is an amazing outdoor pool that is zero-depth and very gradually gets deeper. We forgot our camera that day, so these cute pics of Ev fillin' up her pool at home will have to do until the next lesson. Evie did amazingly well during the first lesson. It's a parent-child class, so her daddy and I went in with her. First, all thirteen toddlers and their parents sang a song about splashing to get used to the water as we waded in. Then, Evie practiced floating on her tummy, blowing bubbles in the water, kicking her feet and paddling her arms to get a rubber ducky, floating on her back and then, last but not least, jumping in after a count down. In between tasks, we circled up to sing songs that worked for splashin' in the water. Evie LOVED it!

Although she was shivering by the end of our 30-minute lesson, Evie didn't want to get out of the pool....unless it meant jumping back in. To our surprise, Evie was actually willing to "jump" in from the side of the pool. It was more of a step than a jump, really, but on the count of 3 she would step off the side and into either mom's or dad's waiting arms beneath the water. We were very impressed with how quickly she became comfortable in the water and how willing she was to try new things. I hope the next 7 lessons go as well!!
