Half-year birthday!

On June 1st, Evie had her 6-month "birthday"! It's hard to beleive how quickly half a year has flown by. In that time, Evelyn has gone from just over 7 and a half pounds to just under 16 and a half pounds...more than double her size at birth. She's also grown roughly 7 inches in length, cut two teeth (with two more looking like they'll cut soon!) and has become quite the chatterbox. Although she can't quite crawl yet, Evelyn is now "creeping" around the room. I didn't realize there was a name for the act of crawling without really using your legs, but apparently that's called creeping. First you creep, then you crawl.....or at least that's how Evie appears to be doing things:)
As the weeks pass, Evelyn grows not only in size and motor skills, but we can also see her personality shining through in an ever more pronounced fashion. Overall, Evelyn has become a very bubbly little girl. She loves to he held and cuddled, and now puts her hand to my face during hugs to let me know she's content. When she isn't hungry, or doesn't like a food, she clamps her mouth shut with vigor. It's clear that she likes music, and she will sing loudly with her daddy, at times appearing to try to mimick the pattern he is singing. If Evelyn is happy to see someone, her smile lights up the room and she kicks her li'l feet with pleasure. If she likes a toy, she shows us by hitting it or putting it in her mouth...and she pushes the toys she isn't interested in to the side. Of all the wonderful traits that Evelyn has, I have to say that my favorite right now is her curiousity. She seems so interested in the world around her, and in exploring new things. I'm sure that's a common trait in babies and young children, but it's one that I find so rare in adults...and so refreshing. Her curiousity makes the world seem so exciting, and maybe that's because it is, and those of us who've been around awhile just forgot. How fun to have a little girl who can teach us so much!
